Elizabeth Hodges

I love teaching because I get to help students grow, build confidence, and realize they're capable of more than they think.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves someone who sees their potential, especially the ones who struggle. I love helping students build confidence, find success in small wins, and realize they are capable of more than they think. Watching growth—academically and personally—is the most rewarding part of my job.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was watching a student who struggled to read stand up and confidently read aloud it the class for the first time. The smile on their face said everything. It wasn't just about the words-it was about confidence, courage, and realizing they could do something they once thought was impossible. Moments like that remind me why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 for my school, I would use it to strengthen intervention and special education resources, purchase updated reading and math materials, and create sensory-friendly spaces for students who need support. I would also help fund extracurricular opportunities so every child, regardless of finances, can participate. My goal would be to remove barriers and create more moments where students feel confident, capable, and successful.
