Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I’ve always loved helping others and understand the power of a safe classroom. In middle and high school, music was my escape from bullying and a place where I felt seen, valued, and confident. I wanted to create that same space for my students. In my classroom, music is more than notes and rhythms, it’s belonging. Watching a child gain confidence and realize they are capable of more than they imagined is why I teach.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was an EC student who joined musical theater while struggling academically and preparing for EOGs. He doubted himself but earned a lead role after stepping outside his comfort zone. As rehearsals continued, his confidence grew, and that belief carried into the classroom. He passed his EOG and delivered an incredible performance. The arts didn’t just change his stage presence — they changed how he saw himself. That transformation is why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would upgrade our sound equipment so students can experience high-quality, professional-level performances that build pride and confidence. I would also pursue Orff certification to deepen my teaching practice and bring even more engaging, research-based learning to my classroom. This investment would strengthen our program and create lasting opportunities for creativity, belonging, and student growth.
