Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to impact the lives of others and inspire greatness. I want my students but only grow academically, but socially and emotionally. It is incredibly rewarding witnessing a student's excitement when they finally understand a concept that was once challenging. It is fulfilling helping students become lifelong learn ers and positive, contributing members of society. I had a teacher in elementary school who inspired me and I would love to do the same for others.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a student that struggled academically, socially, and behaviorally. I learned that I needed to build a relationship with him outside of my teacher role. It was nice to see open up as we bonded over Jenga! After that, in class he worked so hard, to make himself and me proud. He went from crying everyday to being in my highest math and made tremendous growth in reading. The last day of school I got the biggest hug and thank you. I knew I made a positive difference in his life.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the 25,000 I would invest in supplies for my classroom. I would buy a diverse range of texts to build an extensive classroom library, flexible seating options, calming fidgets, and resources for math and reading group centers. I would have resources available for students/families to use such as tooth brushes, chapstick, deodorant, snacks and other essential items they might need to get them ready for learning. I would also put money in my daughters savings for their future education.
