Tell us why you became a teacher

My teachers were the ones who inspired me to pursue education. Their passion for science, building student relationships, and genuine care for their community drove me to become like them. I still thank them to this day for their influence on me, and I aspire to do the same for my current and future students.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In my first year, I was earning my master’s degree and had not yet fulfilled my student teaching requirements. A student of mine confided in me with serious personal troubles and concerning thoughts. I immediately alerted the school so they could receive help. Later, I was given a handwritten letter from them that brought me to tears, thanking me for helping them. As a 22-year-old kid with no experience, that moment showed me the true impact a teacher can have.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded, I would use this opportunity to continue supporting my education as a developing teacher. Becoming a well-rounded and more informed educator and coach will help me achieve my career goals, and I believe this support will make a tremendous difference. Additionally, I would find new ways to engage my students in the classroom, encouraging them to think critically and collaborate with one another.
