Tell us why you became a teacher

I witnessed the divine power of a strong passionate teacher when I was in high school. There were almost 300 students in my high school choir of different races cultures and economic backgrounds, but when we were in that room or on that stage or somewhere in the community or around the country or world, none of our differences mattered, we felt the power of oneness and unity through music and the influence of a strong passionate educator. I aspire to be that same type of educator today!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My greatest teaching moment did not occur with my best classes, nor from proud and prestigious performance accolades, but rather it occurred, when I was informed that I had some behavioral problem students in my general music appreciation class who had history of acting out in class with other teachers. However, I have not experienced any of those behaviors for over 10 weeks now and I believe it is a testament to experience and strong leadership and classroom management.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I am blessed to win, I will definitely use it as a down payment on a home for my elderly disabled parents who I help care for now. They have devoted their entire lives and sacrificed for their children, including me, and now neither one of them own a home to enjoy their final years but I am going to make sure they do somehow.
