Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because early childhood is where confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning begin. I wanted to help children feel valued, supported, and capable. Watching students grow—from learning new words to building friendships—is incredibly rewarding. Teaching allows me to advocate for every child, partner with families, and create meaningful experiences that shape how children see themselves and their future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was helping my Pre-K 4 students begin reading using CVC words and sight words. Watching my lowest students grow from recognizing letters to blending sounds and reading simple sentences was incredible. Seeing their confidence build as they realized they could read on their own reminded me how powerful early literacy instruction can be.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received the $25,000, I would invest it directly into my Pre-K classroom by expanding early literacy resources, hands-on learning materials, and inclusive tools for diverse learners. I would add phonics and CVC word resources, sensory and assistive tools, and culturally responsive books. I would also create engaging literacy centers that help all students—especially struggling learners—build confidence and develop strong reading foundations.
