Tell us why you became a teacher

I stepped into the classroom in response to the teacher shortage, but more importantly, out of a deep commitment to strengthening special education services. My goal has been to move beyond compliance and toward meaningful inclusion, ensuring that students with disabilities are not only supported but fully valued members of their communities.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most meaningful moments of my life as an educator came when a former student joined me as the best man at my wedding. Having him next to me on one of the most important days of my life was a profound reminder of why I chose this work. Teaching is about far more than academics—it’s about connection, commitment, and walking alongside students and their families through life’s milestones.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 I would create the sensory room of my dreams, publish my first children’s book, write my second book, take my students on a special trip, and get a special projector and/or smart board for my classroom. As a neurodiverse teacher living with a TBI this would be a DREAM!
