I always struggled as a student with math. I now teach math in the hopes that I can make a difficult subject fun and easier to understand!
Thank you for supporting Desiree Delehant in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher because I know what it feels like to struggle—especially in math. That experience gave me empathy and determination to make learning more accessible and engaging for my students. I want them to see that challenges don’t define them; growth does. Beyond academics, I strive to help students become confident, compassionate individuals who make a positive difference in their communities.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceTeaching students to be kind, responsible members of society has always been my goal. Many of my students come from low-income families, yet they raised over $1,000 to support a local sheriff’s officer who lost his leg. Watching them proudly present the donation to help his family remains one of my most treasured teaching moments.
What would you do with the $25,000?If awarded $25,000, I would invest it in my son’s education. As a teacher, I deeply value learning and the opportunities it creates. Supporting my children’s education ensures they have access to the same doors I strive to open for my students every day.
