Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a educator because I believe education has the power to change lives. As a social worker on a child study team, I have seen how the right support, encouragement, and guidance can help students overcome barriers and reach their full academic and personal potential. Teaching allows me to advocate for students in need, create opportunities for growth, and help young people discover strengths they may not yet see in themselves.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was helping a student who struggled both academically and emotionally. Through consistent support, collaboration with teachers, and building the student’s confidence, I watched them slowly begin to believe in themselves. By the end of the year, the student showed significant academic improvement and greater self-confidence. Seeing that transformation reminded me why supporting students holistically matters.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest in resources and programs that support students facing academic, emotional, and social barriers to learning. This would include mental health supports, learning tools, and enrichment opportunities that help students build confidence and resilience. I would also expand programs that promote equity and access, ensuring that students who need the most support have opportunities to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
