I love teaching because I uplift Indigenous voices, build safe spaces for healing, and help students see their power and purpose.

Learn MoreI became a teacher because I was once the student who needed someone to see me. As an Indigenous woman and former alternative high school student, I know how powerful it is when an adult refuses to give up on you. I teach to create a space where students feel safe, valued, and capable. I want them to see their power, their culture, and their future reflected in the classroom.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable experience was watching a student who had given up on school complete a cultural identity project and present it with pride. They told me no one had ever asked them to share their story before. Seeing them feel seen and confident reminded me that teaching is not just about academics, it’s about healing, belonging, and helping students believe they matter.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would invest it directly into my students and community funding culturally relevant field trips, traditional arts workshops, financial literacy programming, and basic needs support like food and supplies. Many of my students face systemic barriers. This funding would expand opportunities, strengthen cultural identity, and create experiences that show them their dreams are possible.
