Honestly it was a clear choice being that I had a lot of support from family following in footsteps of others who have become a teacher. I also played teacher with my stuffed animals growing up so it only seemed right for me to have my full circle moment.

I was teaching a math lesson, my favorite subject. And a topic that usually is mastered in third grade came up as review. A student was very confused. I then showed her a strategy that helps me. She then lights up In smiles and thanks me. “Wow this is so helpful I never understood it until you explained it to me in the way you did!” Those words keep me going. It helped me to recognize that I am relatable and students value my presence and my approach. I’m making a difference.

I would surprise my students with a school care package for their summer departing gifts, as I’m always thinking of them. I also would help use the money to pay off the remaining student debt I have from earning my degree, and using the rest to invest in my future to go back to school, as well as to begin a nest egg for myself and my family that is continuing to grow.
