While working as a docent volunteer at the Cleveland Zoo I was reintroduced to the excitement brought on by children yearning to learn. While successful in retail management, I realized where my real passion was. The connection I had was immediate! Bringing the smiles to their faces through the joy of learning while at the same time reinforcing my own desire to be a life-long learner was a lesson I could not pass up! Today I strive to expose others to a profession that always gives back!

People think I am crazy! Planning three night/four day field trips for teenagers! After spending time on the EPA ship RV Lake Guardian and on the Schooner R/V Inland Seas I decided that I needed to share the experience with my students. This unique teaching relationship has not only touched the lives of my students, but also has had a transformative impact on me! It highlights my goal to make a meaningful difference to every one of my students every day!

With the support of all stakeholders, I raised funds that led to the development of the “Murduck Outdoor Environmental Education Laboratory” which serves the entire community. Developed to include all learners, this education area includes sensory gardens, storybook trails, tabletop gardens, and a partially enclosed pavilion powered by solar panels. I would use the $25,000 to extend the handicap accessible trail with lots more real-world educational opportunities for the community!
