Tell us why you became a teacher

I have a background in social work and after my mom passed, her quote really resonated with me. At the time, I was a Guardian ad Litem and mostly met with the kids on my caseload at their schools. It was there that I would talk to different teachers, counselors and administration learning about the roles they played. I even figured to myself that I could serve more beneficial and impactful in their lives in the classroom as opposed to only meeting with them monthly.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Honestly, everyday with my students is memorable. As a Black, male teacher, I am able to relate to students on a different level. My take on teaching is different, in that I consider factors that could affect students outside of the curriculum. Which makes all the difference both with academics and behavior.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My wife and I are wanting to start a family soon. Sadly, we have had several miscarriages over the years, but are faithful that it will happen in God’s timing. The $25,000 would help us tremendously in getting a nursery situated and also help us pay off some student loans!!!
