Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe the way a child feels at school can shape the way they see themselves for the rest of their life. I wanted to be the person who makes kids feel safe, capable, and deeply valued — especially on the days when learning feels hard.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was watching a student who once avoided reading volunteer to read out loud. At the beginning of the year, they doubted themselves and shut down quickly. Through small wins and consistent encouragement, their confidence grew. The day they raised their hand without hesitation, I realized progress isn’t just academic — it’s believing you can.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded the $25,000, I would use it to strengthen the support system around every child in our school community. As an educator in a low-income area, I see firsthand how deeply opportunity gaps impact families. I would expand access to learning resources and provide tools that ensure no child feels overlooked because of ability, language, or circumstance. When a village truly surrounds a child, it can change the trajectory of their life.
