Tell us why you became a teacher

My second grade teacher made me feel smart, important, seen and cared for even though I struggled with my education at the time. She stayed in touch until I graduated college and she passed away. She believed in me and changed my life and I wanted to do the same for others. My students give me reasons to smile every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment was when a parent thanked me for running a summer program for students with special needs because it was the first time in their child’s 4 years of schooling that he had a friend. I loved watching him walk hand in hand chattering away with his friend. I also have been blessed to work with some students from kindergarten to graduation.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money to take my students on a field trip to the ocean!!! We live in rural Vermont and the ocean in Maine is a calming reset for me that I always share with the students. I would love to share the experience and joy with them!!
