I became a teacher because of the extraordinary role models who shaped my life—faith-filled nuns, priests, and dedicated lay educators whose passion for teaching inspired me deeply. Their commitment to students planted a calling in my heart. I felt led by God to follow in their footsteps and devote my life to helping students discover their gifts, build confidence, and reach their God-given potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience goes back to my very first year teaching more than 30 years ago. I was working with middle and high school special education students whose determination, personalities, and spirit left a lasting impression on me. I can still remember their names as if it were yesterday. That extraordinary group of students helped shape the educator I am today and confirmed my lifelong passion for serving Exceptional Learners.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded the $25,000, I would create an inclusive indoor playground designed especially for Exceptional Learners. Many students with special needs learn best through movement, sensory engagement, and hands-on experiences. This space would provide adaptive equipment that promotes physical development, sensory regulation, confidence, and social interaction. It would be a joyful environment where students can move, learn, and thrive while supporting their overall academic success.
