Tell us why you became a teacher

I wanted to be a teacher to make a difference in a child and give them support in their educational journey. Many do not have support at home. They are not encouraged when it’s too hard, some just need someone to care, and to foster a love of learning. I want my students to be the best they can be. I witnessed the impact teachers had on my education and wanted to be a teacher that could do the same.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have had too many in my career to pick just one. I will have to say that my last years class and how they were a huge part of me obtaining National Board Certification as a Teacher. We learned a lot about ourselves as students and myself as a teacher. They were amazing. I was recognized by my district as being only the third teacher to obtain this certification.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Our school district is in the process of consolidating with two other schools. Our district is focusing on financial restructuring and working with limited funds from the state. There is no money for rebranding (renaming the school). I think it’s important as we try to become “one” that this is done. I would use a portion to help fund that process.
