I love teaching because I had amazing art teachers in high school who made me want to show up every day and I wanted to be that for others.

I became a teacher because art changed my life. As a working artist and former instructor, I knew my career had to center on creativity and connection. As a woman with autism, school wasn’t always easy—but art gave me belonging, confidence, and community. Now I create that same safe, inclusive space for my students (especially neurodivergent learners) where they feel seen, supported, and excited to show up every day.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable experiences was supporting a student who became homebound due to health issues. Our class kept her connected through photos, messages, and shared projects so she never felt forgotten. She later told me that returning to her art family is what kept her going. Watching my students rally around her and become her lifelong support system and family is something I’ll never forget.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won $25,000, I would use it to support my family and create financial stability as our main provider. Like many families, we’ve felt the strain, and this would allow me to breathe a little easier. I’d also celebrate my senior art students—whom I’ve taught for four years—with something special to honor the community we’ve built together.
