Tell us why you became a teacher

I always wanted to teach. I played school until the 6th grade. When I began dating my soon husband to be, he had a nephew who was two years old. It was my time with Damien, which led me to work with young children. Witnessing the joy and wonder through the eyes of a young child is a powerful experience.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching for 43 years, I have had many memorable experiences. However, I can share the joy and love seeing my students as adults, witnessing their successes, attending their weddings and tragically even attending their funerals. Our school is a multigenerational school, which has been an existence for 110 years. My school families have opened their hearts to not only myself, but also to my family . Being a recent breast cancer survivor, I truly witnessed their love and support.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would certainly donate money towards my school and perhaps set up a scholarship for a graduating student who would be majoring in education. Our school is pre-K2 through 12.
