I love it because it’s more than lessons & grades- it’s relationships, laughter, growth & helping students discover what they are capable of

I became a teacher because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives. Education shapes not only academic knowledge but also confidence, resilience, and future opportunities. I was drawn to the opportunity to support students during formative years, help them discover their strengths, and create a classroom environment where they feel seen and capable.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceSome of my most memorable moments as a teacher are when I see the “light bulb” turn on for a student. Watching them move from uncertainty to clarity is incredibly rewarding. In those moments, I’m reminded that teaching is not just about content, but about guiding students toward understanding, resilience, and belief in their own abilities.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won the $25,000, I would use a portion of it to deepen literacy and critical thinking in my high school English classroom. I would expand our library with contemporary and diverse texts that challenge students and reflect their experiences. I would strengthen our writing program through workshop materials and visits from authors or journalists. My goal would be to prepare students to think critically, write with purpose, and use their voices confidently beyond high school.
