Tell us why you became a teacher

Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to help others, especially children. I have a master’s degree in speech therapy and have dedicated my career to working with children with special needs, particularly those with autism. In my first work experience, I met a little boy with autism who changed my life and confirmed that I had chosen the right path. Because of him, I am committed to always giving my best and making a difference in the lives of the children I work with.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I worked with a young boy whose parents struggled to give him the attention and support he needed and had difficulty accepting his autism, having experienced it with an older child. From the moment I met him, I knew I had to make a difference. He went from having no speech to speaking English and Spanish and learning to read. We started in Pre-K1, and now in first grade, he is thriving. I also supported his parents in believing in his potential.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My husband had a major surgery almost a year ago and we’re in serious debt, trying to make it work day by day but it’s been hard. That would definitely help us out and give us a push.
