Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to create a space for others, the same kind of space that shaped me. I wanted to be the person who sees potential in a student before they see it in themselves. I wanted to provide structure and inspiration at the same time. I wanted to build something lasting, not just in performance, but in character. Teaching is demanding, humbling, and sometimes exhausting, but it is also profoundly meaningful. I teach because when we invest in youth we change lives

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

For me it would be my first performance after graduating College. I had recently lost my mother in a motor vehicle accident, and I had programmed a piece based on her favorite Hymn "Be Still My Soul", and as we played the students transcended notes and rhythms, connected past the music, and as we finished with tears running down my face we were met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation. As I got off the podium students rushed together in one large bear hug.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would invest in my children's future, I have 3 beautiful children, and that money would help secure their future, support their dreams, and give them every opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed.
