Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA student confided in me that they were transgender (female transitioning to male) but not yet open about it with their family. They asked to be referred to using they/them pronouns. The student would arrive wearing girls’ clothing but change in the restroom at school. They asked if I could stand by the door to ensure privacy while they changed. I understood this was sensitive and felt honored that the student trusted me for support.
