Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be a small part of changing the world by supporting, connecting with, and inspiring students to learn and be curious about learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My work in Special Education has rewarded me in ways I never could have comprehended. This work is tough. This work is challenging and the workload for Special Education staff is enormous. My most memorable experience was teaching a group collaboration project in music production. 4 young men with various learning needs worked together to write and record an original rap composition. We shared their work with the community. They were so proud of their accomplishments.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Special Education is not fully funded by our country, so I would use the funds upgrade some of our sound equipment for teaching, pay for transportation to local music studios to tour and learn from community partners, and invite local composers to our building to perform, teach, and share their experiences as entrepreneurs and musicians with my students. Any chance for us to give experiences to our students so they can see themselves in these possibilities for their future.
