Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Brenda Poole. She was the most kind, fun, and comforting Teacher a child could have. Over the years I had several teachers that inspired me to want to be like them. I wanted to help students enjoy learning and use their knowledge to be empowered. I've helped several hundred students realize their future dreams through education. I wanted to teach to show all students no matter their curcumstance they can do anything.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Wow, there have been so many in my career but one of my most memorable teaching moments was when I met a student in the 9th grade. He was a military student, new to the school and already defeated. Through consistency and teaching him that he could learn and grow he has now graduated from college and works as a top Diesel Mechanic. I saw him change from a depressed child to the captain of the swim team and a true leader. He is one of my most memorable students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 25,000 dollars, I would give back to the school that I am currently employed. I would want to provide supplies for our teachers. If I could personally use some of the money, I would get my Masters Degree in Child and Adolescent counseling. I would also donate to programs outside of my school that provide for at-risk students.
