Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love working with kids and helping them grow to be the best they can be. I love giving them a safe space to learn, making them feel loved, and allowing them express themselves. Not all of my kids have supportive parents or peaceful places to go home to, and school is the only place where they are told how great they are and get rewarded for their achievements.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when I taught elementary school. I had a little girl who would come in every day and run to give me a hug and would beg me to take her home with me. She was the sweetest thing and super smart but had a confusing and busy home life, but she was always excited to come to school. She needed that positive attention, love, and reassurance throughout the day to keep her self esteem up.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would first and foremost help my school restock their family resource closet with clothes and personal hygiene items. I would then make sure to show my thanks with a gift of some sort to all of my admin and coworkers who have helped build me up to be the teacher I am today. I then would use part of the money to replenish my rewards in my classroom that I give out to students for their accomplishments. Finally, I would buy equipment, supplies, and math manipulatives to better my classroom.
