I love teaching because every day is an opportunity to make a child feel seen, capable, loved, and excited about learning.

I became a teacher because I believe in the power of a classroom to change a child’s life. School should be a place where students feel seen, safe, and inspired to discover who they are. For me, teaching is not just about academics—it’s about creating a space where children feel they belong and begin to realize their own potential.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable moments as a teacher came at the end of the school year, when a student who had struggled deeply with reading—and often said he hated it— proudly told the city librarian, “I love reading now because Ms. Sherr taught me how.” In that moment, everything felt worth it. It wasn’t just about skills or progress—it was about a child seeing himself differently, discovering confidence, and finding joy in something that once felt impossible.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would invest in my students and community by creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences, building a strong classroom library, and providing opportunities like field trips that bring learning to life. I would also set aside funds to establish a scholarship for students as they pursue college, ensuring they feel supported beyond the classroom. For myself, I would invest in professional growth and well-being so I can continue showing up as the best educator for my students.
