Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I have always wanted to help children with disabilities reach their full potential. From a young age, I felt drawn to working with students who need extra support, patience, and encouragement. Seeing their growth, confidence, and success—both in and out of the classroom—is what inspires me every day and reminds me why I chose this profession.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences has been helping high school students who had never learned to read finally read their first words. Seeing the moment when the letters come together and make sense to them is unforgettable. Their smiles, pride, and new confidence remind me how powerful teaching can be and why helping students believe in themselves matters so much.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My goal with $25,000 would be to create a community store run by my students. They would bake items for a small bakery, make handmade products such as jewelry, ornaments, and candles, and learn real job skills by managing the store. This hands-on experience would help students with disabilities build confidence, independence, and skills they can use in future employment.
