Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to embed confidence, integrity, and to let children know they have an adult in their corner who cares and loves them. Teaching is not just about academics, but some of these children endure intense hardships and need hope, a sense of belonging, and loads of encouragement. If I can plant a seed that grows for a lifetime those long days and weekend work are more than worth it!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my favorite and most touching memories is when one of my former second graders came back to see me after his high school graduation. He struggled academically, had a lot to contend with at home including financial hardships, and his mom was not present in his life. He walked through my classroom door and said, "Mrs. Estabrook I did it! You made me believe I could!" To this day it still bring tears to my eyes. That is the difference and hope I want to instill in my students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have always wanted to open a small dessert shop designed to share some sugar and encouraging words. Many people struggle, feel alone, and that no one cares about them. I would love to open a sweet spot filled with yummy treats and inspiring scriptures or motivating sayings. it would be really neat if I could have a table where people who could not afford to go out for dessert I could serve free and let them know they are loved. I would use the $25,000.00 to start such an adventure!
