I became a teacher because I was drum major as a high school senior. I realized I was good at conducting a band and teaching my band-mates how to play the song, and developing the sound according to what I wanted the music to sound like.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience happened in 2023 when I taught a particular piece of music. It was a very emotional piece using the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”, which was a hymn that was used at my brother’s funeral a few months before this. The piece was emotional for me, but the kids played it so beautifully. When we performed it at festival, we won top honors, and one of the judges got emotional during his commentary and said “I think I just witnessed something extraordinary!”
What would you do with the $25,000?Pay off my car, then take my children to Hawaii because we’ve been trying to do that ever since our trip was cancelled in 2020 because of COVID!
