Tell us why you became a teacher

I knew from an early age that being an educator was what I was meant for. I’ve always enjoyed helping others and getting to share my love of reading, learning, and growing with students is what inspires me to get out of bed every morning. I strive to continue growing as a learner myself and want to instill that passion in others. I strive to model good character as well and hope that I am making an impact on young people every day in my role as a Librarian!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

With 25 years of experience, I have so many stories of times when students have wowed me or their growth has inspired me. My favorite memories include times when students have reached out to me as teenagers or adults and informed me of the impact I had on them. I love getting to see them continue their success well into adulthood. I am remembered as the teacher that lifted them up, encouraged them, listened, loved, and showed up for them.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Being recognized as America’s favorite teacher would not be about the money for me. If I was awarded funds, I would use them to support staff and students on my campus. I would ensure that they receive materials necessary to continue their academic, social, emotional, and character growth. Any remaining funds would most likely be invested in the future of my own three children.
