I became a teacher because I have always believed that education has the power to change lives. School isn’t just where they learn, they discover who they are, what they are capable of, and how they can contribute to the world around them. I wanted to be part of that journey for young people. As a science teacher, I love helping students understand the world through curiosity and discovery. Science gives students the opportunity to ask questions, explore ideas, and see how things work.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA memorable moments as a teacher was taking our 7th graders on a trip to the Statue of Liberty. For many, it was their first time seeing it in person. Watching their reactions as the ferry approached and the statue came into view was unforgettable. What they had only seen in pictures or books suddenly became real right in front of them. The excitement, curiosity, and pride they felt reminded me how powerful real-life learning experiences can be.
What would you do with the $25,000?My husband and I are both teachers. Together we barely make enough to live in today’s society. We have two children who are college bound in just two short years. We don’t have the ability to pay for them, so I would put this money in their bank accounts to help them with their education.
