Casey LaFrance

I love teaching because my teachers were my safe place. Now, I strive to be that steady support for my students in and out of school.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of the impact my own teachers had on me. After losing my dad in elementary school, their support gave me strength and stability. I’ve always wanted to teach, but more importantly, to inspire kids to love learning and grow. A teacher once showed up for me outside the classroom, proving I mattered as a person. That’s the kind of teacher I strive to be every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was the last day of my first year. Watching my students walk out for the final time was both heartbreaking and incredibly rewarding. I knew they were truly ready for the next grade. That class will always hold a special place in my heart, and it’s been such a joy to watch them continue to grow, thrive, and shine.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would use part of it toward a down payment on my first home. Professionally, I would use the remainder to return to school and complete my master’s degree, which I began last year but had to pause due to financial constraints. Finishing my degree would allow me to continue growing as an educator and better serve my students.
