Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children by helping them grow both academically and personally. I believe that every child has the ability to learn and succeed when given the right support, encouragement, and opportunities. Teaching allows me to create a positive and engaging environment where students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and discover their strengths. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and grow academically.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments in teaching did not have to do with academics. A student had been struggling for several days. We talked and discussed the issue. I offered some advice not knowing if the student would act on it or not. Several days later the student came to me and thanked me for taking f time to talk to them and said that the advice I offered was really helping. It’s important that we remember teaching isn’t always about academics.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to invest a portion of it back into my classroom. There are many items that I could purchase that would benefit my students. Items such as novels, flexible seating and supplies. I would also invest some of it into my family. While my job and students are very important to me so is my family. It’s important as an educator that we balance our school and home life. Overall, I would invest the money in way that benefits my students and family.
