Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I truly won the lottery when it came to parents. Both of mine were teachers who modeled patience, integrity, and a deep belief in the power of education. I grew up surrounded by encouragement and opportunity, and I know not every child is dealt that same hand. Teaching is my way of honoring my parents and giving back—offering support, stability, and belief to children who may need it most.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was teaching eighth grade Health and Human Services. For the final exam, I asked one question: “What did you learn?” I expected CPR or nutrition. Instead, many students wrote about kindness, integrity, and character. Years later, a student named me her inspiration in a graduation essay, recalling my challenge to give three honest compliments a day. Those life lessons meant more than any test score ever could.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded $25,000, I would use it to support what matters most: family, growth, and giving back. I would help my daughter as she completes medical school and ensure my nine-year-old Labrador receives the best possible cancer care. I would invest in professional development to grow as an educator and dedicate a portion to supporting students in my school who face financial hardship. It would be an opportunity to multiply good.
