Cameron Frazer

I love teaching, but also learning from the youth. I believe it goes both ways, and it truly inspires me every day. Building with them.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher when my nephew was born with special needs, blind and on the spectrum. I had to find new ways to communicate, I chose my passion, music. Through our common bond, he now plays the piano, and is brilliant. It changed my life and my career path, while inspiring me to work with the youth.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have so many, I also serve as a Dean at the high school. I’m proud of so many of the students over these past 12 years, but one special memory is when a student in the fitness club I run, did a muscle up for the first time. This is a very elite exercise that he’d been failing at for weeks and finally got. All of his classmates clapped for him and patted him on the back. It showed me that the culture I’m helping to build is self sufficient now, and thriving.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Honestly, I’d pay off some debt and put the rest toward a down payment on a home. NYC is expensive and that would go a long way.
