I wanted to bring a sense of belonging and community to classrooms that I didn’t feel existed when I went to school. Certainly I teach my content area, but classroom climate and interactions are what I truly joined the profession to cultivate.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceBuilding the bridge between Spanish speaking and English speaking students is the highlight of my job. I remind my students of the world around us that we are entirely closed off to, simply because of a language barrier. I remember the class moments of my Spanish-speaking students collaboratively working with my non-native students to bring a sense of authenticity to my courses.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would reinvest the $25,000 into my education. Perhaps, further professional development in student activism and advocacy.
