Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be the safe, steady adult I needed growing up in a difficult household. School was my refuge, and I wanted to create that same sense of safety, belonging, and possibility for other children. As a first generation college graduate, I understand the power of education to break cycles and open doors, and I’m committed to helping every child believe in their worth and potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was supporting a Pre-K student who began reading independently at just four years old. Through patience, differentiation, and daily encouragement, I watched his confidence bloom alongside his skills. Seeing him hold a book and proudly read to his classmates reminded me why early childhood education matters small breakthroughs can change a child’s entire academic journey.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 as a down payment on a home. As a first generation college graduate and dedicated educator, owning a home would provide stability for my family and allow me to continue investing fully in my students and community. It would be a meaningful step toward long term security and building the future I’ve worked so hard for.
