Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to find a way to give students an enjoyable and safe space to be themselves. I want them to feel safe and ready to learn. But I want them to learn ELA from a teacher who is passionate about reading and writing. At the middle school age students have ideas of what they do or don’t like but I want to influence them to branch out and love new and exciting things.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when students this past school year were completing their national history day projects and how proud they were to share their passion projects. I made sure students understand that it was something to take serious to learn necessary skills for research but also interesting enough that they wanted to learn.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the money I would restock and provide more in my classroom pantry as well as pay part of my student loan debt. The restock would consist of foods that are easily made at home with as few ingredients added and able to feed the children when no one else can. I also provide hygiene and feminine products in the pantry. Paying off my debt would help me quit one of my two part time jobs
