Tell us why you became a teacher

I chose teaching Behavioral Disabilities because it’s a meaningful opportunity to help students understand their emotions and feel truly supported. I love guiding them to express their feelings in healthy ways and showing them the value of positive relationships. Watching students grow in confidence, connection, and self-understanding is incredibly rewarding and encourages healthier, happier lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was working with a student who struggled with trust. One day they said, “If Ms. Mundell’s in the room, I know she’s got my back and will help me through this.” That moment reminded me how powerful it is to build trust and create a safe space for students. Knowing a student feels supported and believes in you is one of the most meaningful parts of teaching. Kids don’t want to learn from you if they don’t trust you.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would use it to help pay off my student loans and continue my education by pursuing my master’s degree. Currently, furthering my education is allowing me to better support and advocate for students with behavioral disabilities. Investing in my learning means I can bring more knowledge, strategies, and care into the classroom to help my students grow and succeed.
