Teaching lets me build confidence, expand minds, mentor growth, and create lifelong relationships with students and families.

I started teaching because I’ve always been passionate about growing young minds. As a child, I lined up my dolls and played teacher, dreaming of inspiring others. I was blessed with teachers who told me I could be and do anything, and their belief shaped who I am. My aunt, Avis, was also a teacher, and watching her dedication inspired me to shape, encourage, and empower students to reach their fullest potential.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable teaching experiences was with a student who entered my class performing well below grade level and lacking confidence. One day she told me, “I’m never going to be good enough.” That moment stayed with me. I began staying after school to tutor her, and we worked hard all year. By the end of the year, she reached grade level. When she saw her scores, she said through tears, “I can’t believe I did it.” In that moment, I knew I had chosen the right career path.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the $25,000 as a down payment toward purchasing our first family home. My husband and I plan to pursue fostering and adoption after facing infertility, and we know our next step is expanding our family. To do that, we need a safe, stable space to provide a loving environment. This support would help us buy our first home and prepare our hearts and home to welcome a child and grow our family.
