Teaching for me is a vocation. I teach kindergarten so i get to watch my students learn through play and inquiry, and making mistakes!

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I know firsthand how powerful words and beliefs can be. I originally pursued engineering because of my love for math, science, construction, and automotive technology. However, after a professor told me I wouldn’t succeed, I decided not to give up but to finish the year despite this. With encouragement from my mom, I followed my love for working with kids. I became a teacher to ensure every student feels capable, supported, and never defined by someone else’s doubt.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was a lesson that completely flopped. I worked all night preparing and felt so confident, but my students weren’t engaged or following along. I realized I hadn’t used manipulatives or connected the learning to their interests. The next day, I brought in recycling and turned our classroom into a grocery store for our money unit. That experience shaped me—it reminds me to slow down, listen, and always put students first: take chances, make mistakes, and get messy.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would first contribute to my nephews’ education savings so they can pursue any path they choose without limitation. I would invest in high-quality, reusable classroom materials that spark curiosity, creativity, and hands-on inquiry. I would also take a leave to observe and teach in other countries, learning from diverse educators and bringing global perspectives back to my students. Ultimately, I hope to use these experiences to create an affordable forest school in my community.
