Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I felt called to the profession after COVID 19. I did not fully understand it at first, but I was open. During the shutdown, I was unemployed and took a leap of faith as a long term substitute. Within days, I was asked to stay. It was challenging because students were returning from isolation and struggling, but I connected with them. I chose to speak life, hope, and stability into their lives, and I realized this was not just a job. It was my assignment.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was with a student who isolated himself every day. Instead of redirecting him again, I invited him to sit beside me and truly listened. He admitted he felt judged and unwanted, so he chose to disappear. Later, during discussion, he softly raised his hand and asked, “Can I share?” My heart nearly broke. In that brave moment, I watched a student who felt invisible finally feel seen.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest it in my son’s future. As a single mother, I have learned that preparation changes outcomes. I would use the funds to build his education savings, enroll him in enrichment programs, and expose him to opportunities that stretch his vision. Every decision I make is about breaking limits and building legacy. This would be another intentional step toward securing his future.
