I became a teacher to provide students with agricultural experiences they might not otherwise have at home, while also helping them develop the life skills they need for everyday success. Teaching students where their food comes from and how natural resources shape our daily lives is at the heart of why I chose this profession.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences has also been my favorite: teaching students how to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw. It remains one of the most impactful units I have taught. In countless conversations with former students and parents, this topic is frequently mentioned as a highlight of my class. Students often share that they value the experience because it is real and practical. Providing authentic, hands-on learning opportunities is exactly what I strive to deliver.

I would use this money to invest in my family and our growing farmstead. As we outgrow our 1890 farmhouse, I would begin an addition so we can remain in the home we’ve built together. Many former students helped remodel it, creating memories I deeply value. Staying in a house shaped by their hard work, and raising my family there, would mean everything to us and preserve the life we’ve created.
