Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love to help kids, especially those who have a harder time learning. I wanted to be a safe place for students, I want them to know how much they are loved and cared for and how proud we are of them. Some days it isn't easy, but the kids make it worth it. They bring so much joy to my life, they make me laugh and I learn so much from them. I became a teacher to help others and care for all who walk through the school doors.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was I had a student who I had had for 2 years and he was a non reader and refused to read to me. One day while working on our alphabet letters he had gained 17 letters in the span of 2 weeks. I told him how proud I was of him and his smile was the best thing about the experience. He was so proud of himself and I was so proud of him. Everyday though I have a memorable teaching experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the 25,000, I would take my mom and my husband on vacation. They are my two biggest supporters and have supported me throughout my teaching journey working late hours, putting me through school, being my support system throughout it all. I truly couldn't do this job without the support of my family and my coworkers.
