Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe that it takes just one person to change a child’s story. I wanted to be the steady encouragement, the safe space, and the voice that helps students believe they’re capable of more than they imagine. I was surrounded by teachers who believed that learning is one of the things you will do every day of your life. Now, I want to create that same spark for my students and help them discover a genuine love for learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences in science was during a lesson about how easily germs are spread. My students were skeptical at first, but after we tested it using glow in the dark lotion, their reactions were priceless. When they had to wash their hands and saw them glow under a flashlight, the room filled with excitement and questions. What made it unforgettable wasn’t just the experiment it was watching students who sit quietly ask the questions and lead discussion afterwards.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded the $25,000, I would invest it directly back into my classroom and students. I would update lab equipment so every student can have hands-on science experiences instead of just watching demonstrations. I would also set aside funds to reduce lunch costs for families in my school that need it. If I had any left over, I would also use it to further my education so that I can bring more knowledge to my school district and students.
