Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

Six years ago, after working as a paraeducator in Special Education, numerous people encouraged me to become a teacher. I wasn’t sure at the time, but I decided to follow their advice and take the leap. Now, six years later, I’m still here in my own classroom, doing what I love and working with so many amazing students and individuals every day. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it. I’m so grateful for the encouragement from those who believed in me!!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

For two years I worked with a student with a severe learning disability. We practiced, struggled, tried again, and kept going. Today, he is reading! There is nothing quite like seeing a student realize they can do something they once believed they couldn’t.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take a trip to Bucerias, Mexico, pay off debt and tithe some to my Green Bluff United Methodist Church!
