I became a teacher because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives. Both of my parents are immigrants, and I saw firsthand how much they sacrificed to give me opportunities they never had. That perspective shaped who I am. I feel a deep responsibility to give back to my community and to help students recognize their own potential. Even on the hardest days, we are still blessed, and we are capable of achieving more than we sometimes believe.

My most memorable teaching experience has been building an ESL program, a Spanish for Native Speakers class, and a Latinos in Action program from the ground up. Starting with nothing and watching these programs grow has been incredibly meaningful. Each day, I see students walk into a space where they feel safe to be themselves, where their culture and identity are valued, and where they are empowered to learn, lead, and make a positive impact on the world.

I would do something for my parents. I would also give back to the programs that mean the most to me by donating to Latinos in Action at my school and supporting our soccer programs. In addition, I would help pay off student lunch accounts to support families in need. Lastly, I would invest in my own continued growth by helping fund my doctorate, which I am currently pursuing. I would also get wing stop for my class.
