Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I know what it feels like to think school isn’t for you. Growing up in a broken home, I often felt disconnected from learning. An art teacher changed that by making school a place where I felt seen and capable. That experience showed me the power of one caring educator. I want to be a trauma-informed teacher who creates a safe, supportive classroom where every student feels they belong.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

a version under 500 characters: One of my favorite teaching moments was watching one of my first Pre-K students graduate high school. As a young child, they told me they wanted to become a veterinarian. At graduation she hugged me on stage and melted me heart. Now she is in college studying to become a vet. It reminded me how the encouragement we give students early in life can stay with them for years.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000, I would use it to give my students experiences they might never otherwise have. Many of them have limited opportunities outside their community, so I would organize meaningful field trips that connect learning to the real world. These experiences would help expand their horizons, spark curiosity, and create lasting memories that make learning exciting and meaningful. 🌟
