Tell us why you became a teacher

I was quite young when I started assisting my sisters with homework and friends with their activities. It wasn’t until college that I was able to do this with my fellow classmates in all the art classes I took, where jocks would attempt to draw fruit in a bowl. It was a joy even helping them just a little bit so they could improve their skill. I was a bit nervous when I had the offer but when I asked my professor if I would make a good art teacher, he gave a resounding yes!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Last year was my first year teaching, it had been a wonderful new teacher experience but somewhat difficult at times especially with 3rd grade. Our schools mentor teacher came in to watch how I operated during 3rd grade since I had a few concerns in how I taught. After the class we sat down to review her notes and she expressed how impressed she was to see how much of a well seasoned teacher I was and how it normally takes new teachers some time to get to the point I was already at.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would most likely invest in moveable art display panels, the kids don’t exactly have a space let alone proper places to hang artwork for shows and if I were to buy these panels I feel that the art shows would look and run much smoother. I would also have the opportunity to host an end of the year show that the kids are asking for. With the remaining balance I’d most likely buy some extra art supplies that would be of higher quality.
